The effects of shutter speed in photography

Understanding Shutter speed is crucial. It is the speed by which the shutter of the aperture closes.

Shutter speed determines how motion and movement show up in the image.

Usually, a longer shutter speed will cause movements to show up as blurred image. A higher shutter speed will allow clearer and more detailed non-stationary elements to be captured on the image.

Blurred images from longer shutter speed is can be capitalized. We can sometime use longer shutter speed to produce surreal and ethereal special photo shots. For instance, long night exposure shot of traffic can produce very interesting and stunning neon-light streaks. These streaks are caused by the car lights' path being capture nicely.

On the other hand, very fast shutter speed can capture details not normally seen by the human eye. For instance, liquid photography of water splashing from water droplets can produce nice stationary shots.

It is always interesting and worthwhile to try out various shutter speeds for creative photography. Try it and you may be surprised by the interesting and varied results that can be generated.
